Tip #1
Treat each school day as if your child is going to the H. J. Robinson High School campus.
- Help your child develop a school day routine
- Set times for your children to:
~ Get out of bed.
~ Have breakfast.
~ Get a bath and get dressed in school uniform.
~ Sign in to class for registration.
Tip #2
Set Expectations and Consequences for your children
- Make a decision and inform your child inform your child where he or she will sit with their device and interact with their teacher.
- It is vital that in this area your child don’t have access to devices and materials that will distract them.
- If possible choose an area where other family members will not frequently move about.
- Outline the consequences that the child will face if found outside the designated area during class time.
- Get familiar with your child’s timetable so that you are aware of what time for the different subjects each day.
- Assist your child in preparing the night before for the next day such as putting materials and books in school bag.
- Encourage your child to take a bottle of water to class at the beginning of the day.
- Establish consequences if your child does not make the preparation the night before.
- Check student’s book to see if they are documenting work done each day in the appropriate subject book along with the dates.
- Proper documentation of work is necessary for students to prepare for test and examination.
- If your child miss school for any reason ensure they get the work missed as soon as possible.
Tip #3
Assist you child with time management
- Help your child to organize themselves.
- Help your child in making the adjustment to be taught by many different teachers.
- Encourage your child to record assigned tasks in one assignment book.
- Help your child create a study timetable, using your given timetable as a guide.
- Encourage your child to review Monday’s subjects on Saturday or Sunday and Tuesday’s subjects should be reviewed on Monday.
- Ask your child as they review their notes to write questions that they will ask their teachers to get clarifications if needed.
Tip #4
Hold your child accountable to produce good grades
- You know your child’s potential so, set a number grade that you want he or she to work towards.
- Praise and or reward your child when they achieve this grade.
- Encourage and help them to work harder if they miss this grade.
- Keep close contact with teachers to check on your child’s progress and attendance in class.
