        • ONLINE LEARNING GUIDELINES

As such, they come with sanctions that can be enforced.   They seek to add a level of support for learning not captured totally in the rules for face to face engagement.  The guidelines are an extension of the school rules and the rights and responsibilities document.  In order to create and maintain a safe, positive and intellectually stimulating environment it is necessary to have in place guiding principles for the day to day operation of online learning.

Guiding Principle: Treat everyone the way you wish to be treated; with respect for their/your rights, opinions and feelings.

Overarching Expectation: That students embrace the opportunities and commit the time and effort towards allowing  our teachers to help them to maximizing their potential.

On Teams, your teachers will send you invitations to their classes, that information will come to your Microsoft account and can be accessed in the calendar in your teams account. Make checking for that information a part of your daily tasks.

At the H.J. Robinson High School, we advance the following expectations for interacting in an online environment. They are not exhaustive and your teachers will add to them or modify what is here.

          • Attendance at class is mandatory and students should remain online for the duration of timetabled interaction.
          • Be on time for class and come prepared for the day’s activities.
          • Your uniform top (shirt or blouse) must be worn at all times during class.
          • Try to find a quiet place with minimal or no distractions or noise so that you can focus on your work.
          • Your microphone should be muted unless the teacher says otherwise.
          • Raise your hand to ask a question and wait to be acknowledged instead of just shouting out a response.
          •  Inform your teacher if you need to leave the class
          • Always be respectful of the views and opinions of your classmates.  Always consider your tone and mannerisms when reacting to others and don’t type in all capital letters.
          • The chat feature should first be used to ask for clarification of what is not understood. Conversations should therefore mainly be with teachers.  If your teacher allows chatting with your classmates it is to be restricted to discussing school work.
          • Complete work and upload it by the deadlines posted by the teacher.  Plagiarism will be penalized every time.
          • Obscenities and bullying in any of their forms will not be tolerated in chats.
          • Teachers are to be listened to and shown the required respect in the course of attempting to teach his or her class. When this does not happen, a teacher has the right to block a student from participating in a class. The final decision on the period of absence from a class will be determined by administration.  Students blocked from class will still be required to complete assigned tasks and meet deadlines for the submission of work.

These guidelines will only be as successful as the seriousness that students attach to operating in this online environment. Impress on your children the important role that they have to play in their learning and we will endeavor to help them to get them to where they need to get to.  You want the best for your children and we want the best for our students so we are depending on your help and support to accomplish this shared goal.
