        • External Assessment

        • All external examinations are prepared by the Caribbean Examination Council (CXC) and are usually written in April to June. There are formative and summative assessments that are administered for each subject area.

           

          Formative assessment 


          The Formative assessment is a School Based Assessment (SBA) that is compulsory. The students have to complete a SBA for each subject area. The SBA grade for the CCSLC program is 50% of the overall grade, while the SBA grade for the CSEC program varies from subject to subject (see curriculum guide).  

           

          Summative assessment


          The Summative assessment is one or two examinations.

          o    Caribbean Certificate of Secondary Level Competence (CCSLC)

          The CCSLC curricula for Mathematics, Science, Social Studies and English Language are implemented in Form 1 and the students write the CCSLC examination for Social Studies in Form 2 and examinations for the other three subjects are written in Form 3. All examinations are one paper that contains fifty (50) multiple choice questions that is 50% of the students’ overall grade.

           

           

          o    Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC)

          All examinations have two papers. Paper 1 contains sixty (60) multiple choice questions and Paper 2 contains essay type questions.
